Sergeant Explains Diddy Police Escort

The attorney for the NYPD sergeant that allegedly ordered a police escort for Sean "Diddy" Combs after a recent show at the Hammerstein Ballroom claims that he only did so due to a safety risk presented by the large crowds who came out to see the rap star. The NYPD has confirmed that Diddy received a one-block police escort from the Midtown South precinct.

"A sergeant has been identified as having directed an officer to provide an unauthorized escort, which was for a distance of one block," a police spokesman said.

Attorney Andrew Quinn told the New York Post that the sergeant was attempting to clear the crowd that was gathering around Combs, who was on his way to an after-party in West Orange, New Jersey.

"This wasn't to benefit P. Diddy. It was to ameliorate a crowd situation," Quinn said.
